Rene Hermes: Hermes & Assaf managing partner
If you are reading this biography, than you must be curious about Rene Hermes. Who is he? What is he? What drives him?
I’ve only known Rene for a short time, but I already have a list of adjectives that sums him up in a nutshell. Dynamic, fun, loyal, passionate and meticulous.
When Rene asked me to write his bio, I was hesitant. As much as I wanted to help, I did not want to do an injustice by coming up short, or portraying him as someone he’s not. But after realizing that Rene is not one to trumpet his own accomplishments, I agreed. I’ll keep it short while at the same time try to convey why anyone would be glad to know him or work with him.
Rene is originally from Lebanon, where he went to school and played the drums in several bands.
He graduated with Honors from University Of Miami, with a degree in International Finance and Marketing.
As a student he helped organize and secured funding for Afrikavenir: A charity that provides education for the children of Senegal. He also found time to start up a magazine and earn a Pilot’s License.
Upon graduation Rene went to work for United Development Corp. as a Financial Analyst. UDC is a multinational investment group headquartered in Qatar. They are responsible for the Pearl Island as well as other landmark developments in the Middle East and elsewhere.
UDC is Qatar’s leading public shareholding company, and the sole owner and developer of the Pearl Qatar project, a multi-billion dollar residential and commercial development. UDC’s principal activity is in identifying and investing in major long-term development projects in the region. The Company’s target areas of interest include hydrocarbon and energy, urban development, infrastructure and utilities, environment-related businesses, and hospitality and leisure. Through its various alliances, UDC has successfully established new companies and investment vehicles across the region. UDC is listed on the DSM since June 2003.
Within three years of working at UDC, Rene was promoted to Senior Financial Analyst. This position required him to work directly with all of the Executive Vice-Presidents and his work reported directly to the Board of Directors. His main responsibility was to analyze and optimize revenues for many new ventures under the UDC umbrella.
In both positions, Rene have earned the respect and garnered the support of his supervisors who have recognized and praised his work on numerous occasions.
At this point, Rene was poised to achieve anything he set his mind to, having moved up so fast within his company and proving himself to be worthy of such major responsibilities and putting to practice all he had learned in school, on the job and through his other activities and interests.
By now you’ve figured out that Rene made the decision to come live and work in Chicago. And not until he knew he could adapt and not just survive but thrive in a new setting. But instead of going through the normal channels of looking for employment, Rene decided to venture out on his own. Taking everything he had learned thus far, anticipating and incorporating the future needs of his new fiancé, Rene researched and explored new opportunities.
Rene moved to Chicago with a business plan in hand. He enlisted the help of his childhood friend and University of Miami alum, Pierre Assaf, and together they founded Hermes & Assaf – Medical Finances Services
Rene is currently working at developing and maintaining great client relationships, he is engaged to be married, still playing the drums, flying, and learning how to play polo.
